2018 Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the Year announced

Two Monroe Demonstration Academy staffers are the Tulsa Public Schools teacher and support employees of the year, the district said Thursday.

It was a clean sweep for Monroe Demonstration Academy at this year’s 2018 Employee Awards Banquet as newly crowned teacher of the year Shaniqua Ray and support employee of the year Anne Stone, both hail from Monroe. Both Ray and Stone were chosen from over 80 nominees for each award.

Ray began her teaching career in Honduras where she taught math and English at a bilingual school. Her love for math began in high school where she had a math teacher that saw something in her that she did not see in herself. Her passion for youth also began long before her teaching career, working with several organizations that supported youth in various aspects such as life skills and educational achievement. In 2012, Ray founded a mentoring program, Give Em’ Hope, that works with students to overcome barriers to academic success. Ray earned her bachelor’s at  the University of Arkansas, a master’s at University of Phoenix and her specialist degree at Arkansas State.

Stone, a 22 year veteran of Tulsa Public Schools, is one of the founders of Monroe Demonstration Academy and serves as the school clerk assistant. She starts her day greeting parents and student scholars with hugs and letting them know they have success in their pockets and that they are the only person that can take it out. Teachers and school leaders agree that Miss Anne always gives assistance to her co-workers and parents and exemplifies all of the district core values throughout her daily like, ahd how she has touched others past and present.

As the reigning teacher and support employee award recipients, Ray and Stone each received a gift of $500 and a $100 donation made on their behalf to their school.
