Brittany Lee Davis named Monroe Teacher of the Year

Brittany Lee Davis is the 2025-2026 Monroe Demonstration Academy Teacher of the Year!

Brittany joined Team Tulsa in 2018. She taught at Whitman Elementary for several years before becoming the 6th and 7th grade math teacher at Monroe a year ago. She also serves as the math team lead. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What led you to a career in education?

I entered education because I know what it feels like to be that kid who comes to school carrying fear, uncertainty, and life on their shoulders. In Texas, I worked as a paraprofessional with students who everyone assumed “didn’t care” — but once genuine connection was built, they started participating, learning, and smiling again. It taught me that kids don’t stop learning because they don’t want to — they stop when they don’t feel seen.

I was once a student who needed to be seen. I can still remember the teachers who made me feel believed in when life outside of school felt confusing and heavy. That belief carried me, and I wanted to give that same feeling to students who remind me of my younger self — students who are brilliant, funny, hurting, and hopeful all at the same time.

Some of my most meaningful moments have been about relationships and belonging — students asking me to come to their games, parents calling just because their child wants to talk, and former students reaching out years later to share their lives with me. Those connections remind me that being an educator is more than teaching — it is presence, consistency, and love. That is why I am here.

What is your favorite thing about your work?

My students are my favorite part of this work, but I also deeply value my coworkers. When teaching gets tough, I know I can lean on my team for support.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?

My nieces and nephews. Being an auntie is one of my greatest joys!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I play women’s tackle football for the Oklahoma Rage.
